Our gut brain has four quadrants

Because our gut brain is organized both top & bottom and right & left, this permits four quadrants. Diagrammed here as if look into a mirror or down at your own body:

Four quadrants of the gut brain

Top left | Top right
———————-o————————–
Bottom left | Bottom right

Trying to give credit where credit is due, even tho I can’t recall seeing it and even tho a Google search in 2010 for “four quadrants of TCM” has zero pages, I think buried somewhere in TCM arcana is the idea of the front of the belly having four quadrants associated with the following organs:

Top left | Top right

Stomach, spleen | Liver, gall bladder
———————–o————————-
Bottom left | Bottom right

Left kidney | Right kidney

Readers who can tie down where this exists in TCM are encouraged to contact the author to include it in the 2nd edition.

Bertrand Babinet’s Inner Family

Bertrand Babinet in the early 1990s uncovered how the above quadrant-organ system from TCM(?)converges wonderfully with Virginia Satir’s Family system in family therapy. Bertrand connected the characteristic expressions of family positions to the four quadrants of TCM.
